About The Coil
The Coil is a weekday literary magazine that features essays, book reviews, interviews, shelfies, columns, articles, fiction, nonfiction, poetry, artwork, historical writing, literary recipes, booklists, soundbites, and more. Helmed by indie publisher Alternating Current Press and named after the Tesla coil, this online journal always has something new and electric in the literary vein. We post here Monday through Friday, are a paying market, and have about 90,000 readers.
We welcome diverse and underrepresented voices and are a liberal, fact-minded, non-religious journal that is a safe space for LGBTQUIA2+ and BIPOC+ authors, and writers of all ages, cultures, backgrounds, and abilities. Hate speech and harmful agendas are not welcome here. We reserve the right to refuse any material that doesn’t align with the principles of our journal. Follow us on Twitter X or at any of Alternating Current Press’ socials, and check back often. Hashtag us at #CoilMag.
What Is a Tesla Coil?
A Tesla coil is an electrical resonant transformer circuit designed by inventor Nikola Tesla in 1891. It is used to produce high-voltage, low-current, high-frequency alternating-current electricity. The Coil magazine is named after this seriously badass wizardry.
